Head of Brand & Communications
What You’ll Be Doing
We're looking for someone who takes the current vision and strategy, extends it and turns it into an executable plan for the coming years. You’ll work together with our facility operator, who will run the bigger part of the marketing & comms operation and decide on what kind of (external) help you need to take care of our branding & PR. Of course we also expect you to be comfortable to get hands-on with execution, if needed. You should be a self-starter, understand that you own the responsibility for our Brand & Comms but that you do not have to do everything yourself. You understand how to be lean, what work you should delegate to external partners, where AI is helpful and where it isn’t. You need to be comfortable in an environment where the pace is high, little is fixed yet, and a lot is moving at once.
As Head of Brand & Communications, you own the marketing & comms, branding and PR of The Stack. You're the allrounder with a vision, who understands how these four disciplines work together to create our identity and voice. Who is equally comfortable setting direction as picking up the work yourself if needed. Much of what you'll do is still in the making, and you'll be the one to build it out further.
Your day to day could look like:
Making sure the brand identity and tone of voice for The Stack match reality once the Residents are in, and making sure it's applied consistently across every touchpoint;
Developing and owning the bigger vision about our external presence all the way down to planning and overseeing the production of content;
Work in close collaboration with our Events manager, Community manager and Operator Partner (who runs the building and manages the Residents for us) to manage and oversee our social media content & channels, a recurring newsletter and our digital community platform. Turning the stories of our residents, partners and events into content: founder spotlights, partner announcements, launch updates;
Manage PR; we’d like you to develop a solid plan how to manage our PR, meaning building press relationships, drafting announcements, and positioning The Stack in the broader European AI conversation;
Stakeholder management: The Stack deals with a lot of different audiences and stakeholders (residents, shareholders, founding partners, various ecosystem partners, municipality and government). You understand how to address them professionally and effectively and how to either give them a spotlight or inspire them to join or support The Stack, all with a communication style that fits who we are;
Who you are
Our ideal candidate embodies most of the qualities listed below. If you don't meet every requirement but believe you're the right fit, we encourage you to make your case.
Senior-level experience in marketing, comms, branding and PR, preferably in a fast-paced, high-growth environment such as a startup, scale-up or hub;
A true allrounder: as comfortable with strategy as with execution, and willing to do both when needed;
Experience managing relationships with founders, partners and investors;
Affinity with (deep) tech and AI, enough to hold credible conversations with technical founders and corporate partners;
Strong writing skills in both Dutch and English;
Pragmatic mindset: you choose what's functional over what's unnecessarily complex and what fits the stage The Stack is in.
Experience building marketing, PR or branding from scratch (0-to-1)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within an AI, deep tech or innovation ecosystem;
An existing network within the Dutch and/or European tech or AI (media) scene.
How You Work
Build over polish: You choose functional and practical over overkill. No unnecessarily complex marketing tech or drawn-out branding trajectories. You build what's needed and what works, with an AI first mindset.
Own the operation: You combine strategic thinking with execution. You define and run the marketing, comms, PR and branding operation and get hands-on yourself if needed, staying comfortable in a fast-moving environment.
Connect the ecosystem: You build relationships with Residents, Founding Partners and the Dutch/European tech/ AI media scene, and translate those relationships into visible, professional positioning. Techleap is our biggest shareholder, meaning you also work with marketing & comms colleagues across other Techleap entities.
