Head of Data

Our new Head of Data is able to achieve three major milestones in the coming year(s). First, you will build a data team to start building our data capacity. Second, you will be Techleap’s data owner and provide actionable insights about the Dutch Tech Ecosystem. Finally you act as a primary point of contact for internal and external partners to push our data agenda forward and eventually ‘productize’ our data capability.

Full-time · Amsterdam

Your first year at Techleap

  • After the first 2 months you understand the core data needs of Techleap and have a fair understanding of the needs and capabilities of our external stakeholders. You know what it takes to succeed in centralizing the ecosystem data, and how to bring the organization along on that mission. You are fully in recruitment mode as well to build the team that is going to create the entire infrastructure;

  • After 5 months you will have built an MVP with the team ready for use by the core stakeholder group to start gathering user feedback to implement in the months that follow;

  • When you look back on your first year you position Techleap as the central data cog for ecosystem capabilities. You have the support of the ecosystem on both your ideas and strategy, and are in full execution mode on the product finalization.

As our Head of Data, you will report to the Managing Director and you will have a small team (+/- 4 people) reporting to you. You will be the central point of our data engagements, both internally and externally. As you are responsible for external communications from the data team, the role will entail business analysis in it as well.

Key Responsibilities
You are going to lead a small data-product team and help them feel accomplished and happy in a fast changing landscape. This team will include a (technical) Product Owner that will hold responsibility on the daily product development efforts and incoming requests;

  • You will act as the main stakeholder and sparring partner for Techleap around all data topics, both internal as well as external towards all our (ecosystem)partners;

  • You define business use cases and define the quality standards that we need to reach to showcase value;

  • You are the businesses’ ‘data owner’ - both in quality and completeness. You will be the ‘go to’ person for internal and external stakeholders that need input from the team in terms of ecosystem data, founder data or around (published) reports;

  • You will take a thought leadership position in the industry together with subject matter experts from the different teams. That means that you are on top of developments that occur in the Tech ecosystem and support these developments;

  • Thought leadership also entails the ‘distribution of ideas’. And for this you will work closely with our MarCom team to make sure we address these topics well to a broader audience or a very specific one (f.e. governmental institutions) through reports, white papers, blogs or other;

  • Find potential ways in productization of the data initiatives we develop in the coming years.

What you bring to the table

  • You bring industry experience from Scaleups or the VC domain, where data defines the business and is critical to future decision making;

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership/management role of small to medium sized teams;

  • Data literacy, meaning you can easily interpret large amounts of data and know to find business value in it;

  • Technical understanding and experience building a (new!) data product from the ground up and in depth knowledge on CMS structuring;

  • Experience in productization, ideally in regards to partners and co-creation where we collaborate on certain topics with industry leaders and companies that hold valuable data;

  • Understanding and experience in Go to Market (GTM) strategies;

  • Stakeholder management experience on a senior level with internal teams and external bodies;

  • Dutch proficiency and cultural understanding. We work with many parties in the Netherlands and intrinsically understanding their drives and behavior helps you to better understand what makes them tick and move your way;

  • Fluent English skills;

Note: for this role we will consider people that live in the Netherlands already and hold a valid working permit (VISA or other)!

This is what you get in return:
Next to your salary (t.b.d.), you will get an 8% holiday allowance, 15% pension allowance for you to allocate, a great home- and BYOD allowance, travel allowance, unlimited holidays, hybrid working setup (2-3 days WFO) and a full time contract (ideally 40 hours per week).

If you feel our mission and this role is the right fit for you, please apply. For questions or more information don’t hesitate to reach out to Tom: tom@techleap.nl.
